Like the title said; I work at the marketing team on Xbox Studios and they told us to start to prepare to work on the brand's visual for a portable console of Microsoft they plan to release a while after Xbox Scarlett.
I have little word on what the console really looks like, or how powerful the system is, only that it’s named “Project OH” and a few major functional details that the team needs to prepare before more information is unveiled to us. The information I received it’s that it will be a smaller sister to the Project Scarlett and that it will be a surprise reveal of E3 2020 alongside Scarlett, and will be released at a latter date of Scarlett.
On the functionalities: The idea is that the portable console will use the fully capabilities of XCloud and Game Pass to run games alongside the Scarlett. You will be able to download games on your Scarlett and tell your Scarlett to send some of the games that work on the Project OH at extremely fast download speeds, the idea is that you can download a large amount of big games in less than a hour, or you can also stream on the console using the Scarlett and vice-versa.
The screen will also have touch and voice recognition technology, and you can use your finger and phrases to navigate trough menus and command actions, and of course, you can also use the console independently from Scarlett (but having Scarlett gives these extra perks). It will be able to run games on 4k and above when streaming from Scarlett and XCloud (no word on standalone playing, but I assume it will be much lower)
This console won’t accept disks and it will be all digital, in order to dedicate power to other functionalities such as battery life, storage etc and it also be much cheaper than Scarlett in order to compete with Stadia(yes, for some reason, they want to make this a direct competitor to Stadia and market it). When I had vague word on what it would look like, it’s “squared in shape” and it will be the largest portable console to date.
They told it would release with games alongside it. But didn't said which games, for exception they are working on Cyberpunk 2077 immersive dialogue system to be used with the console, and to get things ready when confirmation word comes out.
Btw: There were words at the management in the past that Microsoft wanted to make a portable console to compete with Vita, but the superiors tought that the Vita would have a hard time at the market and that releasing “just a more powerful portable console” wouldn’t be enough to grasp the public attention on an already dominated Nintendo market, so they’ve decided to cut the project and wait for more interesting ideas to work on.
