I will not be discussing story too much here, only where it involves customisation systems. I recently had a good catch up with my former Hangar 13-developer contact, and we discussed a lot of stuff - if anybody knows what customisation systems are in the game, it's him, as he had direct access to a lot of the features I'm about to disclose.
Upon doing their post-mortem on MAFIA III, it was clear that he and his unit on the team wanted to give players more customisation as that was a key feature people wanted in MAFIA III but later got it (somewhat lacking) in a post-launch tacked on update. This time however, it's been built from the start with the game.
- Haircuts. Think of something like GTAO or the Godfather games in terms of hair choices, plenty to choose from.
- Clothing. Massive array of choices. They made propriety tools to allow for mass production of AAA-quality clothing options to the player. You can wear suits, casual attire, mix-and-match, it's all up to you, oh and NPCs will apparently comment on your appearance as you pass them in the street (my contact suggested maybe not wearing a blazer with summer-shorts, people tend to laugh at you).
- Businesses. Think MAFIA 3's DLC Bar Building in terms of customisation choices, but dialed up to 100. ANY business you own in your Empire, you can customise and theme to your liking. If you want a "Swinging Sixties" theme, go for it! If you want a gloomy and shithole looking joint, why not. All up to you.
- Staff. Again, like the MAFIA 3 DLC, you have to go out and recruit, or hire, staff to keep your businesses thriving while you're out and about. You can hire accountants, bar staff, musicians, etc. - each "class" of employee has stats that improve the more they work, but the more hours they work, the more upkeep they cost. The higher their stat, the more money you make in the long run, a good risk/reward system. Very cool system.
- Vehicles. This system has been massively overhauled and resembles something like GTA, Forza, The Crew, all the big car games in terms of customisation. You can kinda guess what kinda stuff you can customise.
More MAFIA IV details to follow over the months.
