I have a friend who works in marketing and has close ties with Nintendo (and for obvious reasons I can't release any insider information other than what's put forward), and so far, there are five new characters planned - one of which looks like it will most likely be arriving from either SEGA or Bandai Namco.
Each character will cost 4.99 USD and WILL NOT be released as a set from the start. Instead, they will become available as individual DLC, and must be purchased separately.
Also, Ryu from Ninja Gaiden will not be the last character announced for the first round of releases
