Rumor: Miss Universe: The Game NOT cancelled, still in development.

Details:

  • Game is still titled "Miss Universe: The Game"

  • Game is being developed by Criterion Games (Burnout, Need for Speed Hot Pursuit/Most Wanted reboots), with help from DICE Sweden, Motive Studios (Vancouver office) and a new studio in Manila, Philippines.

  • Expected to release in Holiday 2021; PC, PS4/Pro/5, Xbox One/One S/One X/Series X/Lockhart. Xbox is said to have the potential marketing rights for the game.

  • Runs on Frostbite and will be the showcase game for the engine's new hair tech.

  • Game will be COMPLETELY different from EA Black Box's version.

  • Game features a single-player story campaign; Players play as a college senior from Panama (voiced by Keity Drennan, Miss Panama ‘16) wanting to try out for Miss Universe but has to overcome various things (her weight, her spoken English, finishing her college term). Co-developed by Criterion and Motive.

  • Campaign will feature a dialogue system similar to Mass Effect. Will be playable in either English or Spanish. The main character will be named by the player and is customizable.

  • Campaign's story is said to be influenced by FIFA's, Madden's and Fight Night Champion's campaign modes.

  • Miss Universe Online (multiplayer mode), featuring 90-player multiplayer pageants (includes both preliminary and finals). Includes private/public modes as well as scheduled live events (think Xbox’s 1 vs. 100 and Texas Heat poker). Developed by DICE Sweden.

  • Selected former Miss Universes, Miss USAs and Miss Teen USAs will be playable in the multiplayer mode. Players will also be able to create/customize beauty queens.

  • Development began in late 2014, shortly after the cancellation of Criterion's Beyond Cars project. Several former Miss Great Britain brought in for help.

  • Post-release plans: All post-release content for MUO mode (venues/licensed characters) expected to be free. Game is also expected to have MTX for additional costumes/hair styles only.

  • Game is expected to be rated M for Mature (17+) due to the story campaign alone (Spanish profanity, brief/partial nudity but no breast/genital exposure, depictions of violent abuse) but will feature a content filter (like in Gears of War).

Of course, this is a rumor so these could be completely inaccurate/false but this was the info given to me by sources close to the game's development so take it with a grain of salt please.
